International Yoga Day: Reconnect With Your Soul
While a workout is to maintain your body in good shape, yoga aligns and enriches your soul. And International Yoga Day (June 21) is the day to celebrate this act of reconnecting with your soul.
In 2014, the United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga to raise awareness worldwide of yoga benefits. The idea was proposed by Prime Minister (India) Narendra Modi during the 69th session of the General Assembly. According to the PM, yoga is an invaluable gift from the ancient Indian tradition that unites body, mind, and soul. And, this is true!
Yoga Is More Than Asanas
Asanas (poses) can be a part of yoga, but yoga is not all about asanas. Asanas indeed help balance our chakras and endocrine glands, enabling us to manage our behavior, emotions, and lifestyle. But yoga is a lot more than that!
Yoga creates a conscious “connection” to one’s own soul, which is as important as your mental and physical wellbeing.
How to celebrate International Yoga Day?
While there’s no one answer to this, you can follow this yoga-day routine to rejuvenate your body, mind, and soul.
Please note that yoga is your overall wellness - physical and emotional. So, you can also incorporate wellness coaching and PureBioenergy Healing at Integrative Healing to uplift your overall experience.
Start Your Day by Breathing
Breathing reduces anxiety and stress by calming your nerves and relaxing your body. In addition, it improves your mental concentration and boosts energy levels.
So, sit down on your yoga mat (or bed), relax your abdominal muscles, and start breathing gently. Morning breathing is the best time when the air is fresh, and birds are singing, creating the perfect ambiance.
Find a Calm Place to Meditate
In yoga, nature and the surrounding environment are essential. You need a serene place so that no one disturbs you while you're trying to connect with your soul. It can be your garden, rooftop, or a secluded room.
Now, keep your eyes closed and meditate for 5-10 minutes (or longer if you can). Once done, it’s time to do yoga poses.
Some easy and effective yoga poses you can try are:
Tree Pose
Tree pose helps cultivate balance, relax your body and focus your mind. Simply shift your body weight onto your right foot and place the left foot up to your thighs. Now, join your hands in the prayer position and maintain this pose for 3-5 minutes.
Warrior Pose
Stand and take a large step back with your left foot. Now, bend your right knee and raise your arms high. Hold for 2 minutes, and then change legs.
Triangle Pose
A variation of the warrior yoga pose, the triangle pose is relatively easier. Straighten your front leg and try to touch your toe with your left hand. Next, rotate your torso to the right and extend the other hand to the ceiling. Hold for 10 breaths, and then switch sides.
Seated Twist
Now, this is the super-easy yoga pose on our list! Cross your legs and extend your left foot to the right. Leave your right leg where it is while you're seated.
Your left foot should stand on the floor outside your right hip with your knee pointing towards the ceiling. Now, twist your body on one side and then swap to stretch the other way.
Once you’re done with yoga, practice breathing again for 5-10 minutes. Then, follow with a revitalizing green tea.
Make this International Yoga Day 2022 the start of your yoga journey and change your life for good!
